Incident Date

09/25/2018 - 11:03 PM

Ferris Ave.

Kenneth C. Johnson, III, age 25, Madison
Suspect was arrested for burglary.

Male, age 82, Madison
Female, age 77, Madison

An 82-year-old Ferris Ave. resident chased a burglar down inside his home, and attempted to detain the intruder last night, but the suspect was able to break away and run.

Officers were quickly in the area. They set up a perimeter, and stopped a man matching a description provided by the victim. The victim identified the suspect as the person with whom he had struggled.

The confrontation began when the homeowner awakened to his wife's screams. She began yelling when she realized a stranger was in their home.

Her husband spotted the man in a hallway and pursued him toward the front door. There, he grabbed the burglar by his hood and hair, pulling out a chunk of the latter.
When officers arrived, they found the hair on the floor and collected it for evidence. It's believed the intruder entered through an unlocked, sliding patio door.
The arrested man said this is a case of mistaken identity. He was taken to jail on a tentative burglary charge.
