Address4002 School Rd. (Mendota Elementary School)
Suspect(s)Male, age 16, Madison
MPD currently seeking teen suspect.
ArrestedDemontae D. Tillman, age 17, Madison
Tillman was arrested for operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent, felony bail jumping, possession of stolen property, possession of marijuana, reckless driving and hit-and-run.
DetailsA child was just getting off of a school bus, in front of Mendota Elementary School when the bus was struck from behind by a stolen SUV. The school bus driver, who was behind the wheel, saw the SUV speed away. She was not injured, nor was the child.
Another witness told police the SUV and a Chevy Impala were traveling together as both accelerated through the neighborhood heading south on School Rd.
The driver of the Impala would soon ram a Volkswagen Jetta at the intersection of Northport Dr. and Northridge Terrace. Like the collision with the school bus, the suspect did not stop: a second hit-and-run in the course of several minutes. The Jetta was pushed into a median and had to be towed. Its driver, a 50-year-old Madison woman, was not injured.
North District officers found the stolen SUV and the Impala parked at a Northport Drive gas station.
A 17-year-old, who had been driving the SUV, was still in the area and arrested on a host of tentative charges. In his pockets, were many items that belong to the SUV's owner: driver's license, credit card, etc. The 30-year-old victim was washing her clothes inside the Northport Laundry, 1417 Northport Dr., earlier in the afternoon when the SUV was stolen. She believes she accidently dropped her keys in the parking lot.
The MPD has identified a 16-year-old from Madison as the driver of the Impala. He is still at large.
