3000 block Darbo Dr (at Clyde Gallagher)


Female, age 30, Madison


     The 30-year-old victim died of homicidal violence. Her body was found in a grassy area, near a sidewalk at the intersection of Clyde Gallagher Ave. and Darbo Dr. around 4:20 a.m.

     The Dane County Medical Examiner has scheduled an autopsy for today and it will be up to the ME to determine cause and manner of death, and to release the name of the deceased once her family has been notified.

     The MPD's Violent Crime Unit is leading the investigation into the city's first murder (save for vehicular homicides) of the year.

A suspect in the homicide that occurred in the 3000 block of Darbo Drive on August 23, 2019, was identified as Lew A. Jefferson, a 58 year old male from Chicago.  He was taken into custody this morning and was booked into the Dane County Jail on a charge of First Degree Intentional Homicide.  The Violent Crime Unit is still investigating the circumstances of the homicide and is asking that anyone who has any information regarding Jefferson or has had any contact with him in the last six months, to contact the Violent Crime Unit at (608) 243-0550.

The Madison Police Department is on scene and investigating a suspicious death which occurred on the 3000 Bl Darbo Dr..  The deceased is a 30 year old female.  No more information is available for release at this time.
