Incident Date09/17/2019 - 11:14 PM
Address600 block State Street
ArrestedByron F. Ramirez-Urbina, age 31, Madison
Driver was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and fleeing an officer. He was also cited for driving on a sidewalk, failure to obey a boulevard ordinance, operating without a license, and expectorating (spitting) in public.
DetailsThere were a lot of people out and about last night, enjoying a Thursday night in the city's prime entertainment district, when a drunken driver failed to stop at the dead-end of N. Frances St. The operator took his SUV across a sidewalk, through a pedestrian-only area, before dropping off a curb and onto State Street - where regular vehicular traffic is prohibited. A MPD officer was in the area, and watched as this was unfolding. The officer got behind the SUV, lit it up, activated the squad's siren, and followed the driver who was slow to pullover. He did so at the intersection of State St. and W. Gorham St. The motorist was arrested for operating a motor vehicle while under the influence and fleeing an officer. He was also cited for driving on a sidewalk, failure to obey a boulevard ordinance, operating without a license, and expectorating (spitting) in public. A scene sergeant wrote in his report: "When I arrived, there were many people out on foot or bicycle. This was a busy Tuesday night and given the driver of the vehicle was at one time on the sidewalk and then driving on State Street, it is fortunate no one was injured."
