ArrestedBenjamin L. Nickel, age 38, was taken into custody on a tentative charge of attempted first degree intentional homicide.
Jeremiah C. Coby, age 39, was arrested for attempted first degree intentional homicide – party to a crime.
Brandon M. Buckner, Sr., age 28, Madison
Buckner was arrested for second degree reckless endangering safety.
The Violent Crimes Unit arrested two men Wednesday night while serving a search warrant at a home on Upland Dr.
Benjamin L. Nickel, age 38, was taken into custody on a tentative charge of attempted first degree intentional homicide. Jeremiah C. Coby, age 39, was arrested for attempted first degree intentional homicide – party to a crime.
VCU detectives believe Nickel and Coby fired handguns at two other suspects following a marijuana deal that went poorly.
Bullets passed over nearby Langdon St., fortunately no innocent people were hit.
Two sets of shell casings, from two different guns, were found and taken into evidence.
A man detectives believe was involved in the dispute showed up at a hospital Friday afternoon with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. It is believed he was injured during the Thursday night shooting. He was treated and released. The man has not been arrested at this point and the investigation continues.
Detectives have determined there was a dispute inside a second floor apartment on State Street. The apartment has a window that faces nearby Langdon St. Following the confrontation inside the apartment, a couple of men fled into an alley. It was at this time there was an exchange of gun fire with at least two weapons involved. Casings and other evidence were recovered. One bullet hit the office window of an apartment building on Langdon Street. There was no one in the office at the time. The apartment – where the initial confrontation had taken place - was also found to have gunshot damage. There were no reported injuries, and those involved are acquainted with one another. One suspect was located near the scene and arrested for second degree reckless endangering safety. Central District detectives and patrol officers are working with our Violent Crime Unit and more arrests are anticipated. The MPD would like to thank our partners at the UW-Madison Police Department for their assistance at the scene.

DetailsMadison Police responded to numerous callers reporting shots being fired in the 600 block of Langdon Street.
Property damage has been located and the investigation continues. There are no reported injuries at this time.
