Incident TypeArrested Person
Incident Date10/11/2019 - 2:26 AM
AddressOld Gate Rd.
ArrestedCorey L. Day, age 28, Madison
Day was arrested for obstructing - one count, and resisting - one count.
DetailsA theft "victim" who berated the MPD for not working fast enough on his case, who asked several times to talk to a supervisor, and who threatened to bring a lawsuit against the Department, was arrested for obstructing and resisting after he finally admitted he had lied about what happened to his wallet.
He had claimed an Uber driver stole it in the early morning hours of October 11th, and that the driver attempted to hit the "victim" with the Uber after the "victim" got out and attempted to get the wallet back.
A MPD patrol officer spent a good deal of time investigating the allegation and eventually learned the Uber driver had installed a surveillance camera and audio system because of past false claims by passengers.
Yesterday, the "victim" was confronted with this information. He admitted he had lied and had made up the allegations about the driver. The investigating officer told the "victim" he could have cost the Uber driver his job, a job the Uber driver needs to survive. He also had the officer waste lots of time that could have been dedicated to solving a real crime.
The Madison man was arrested for obstructing, and also resisting as he struggled with officers as they took him into custody.
