Incident Report for Case #2019-465570

Incident Type

Incident Date

11/09/2019 - 6:05 PM

1300 block Regent St.

An Uber driver told police he was punched and choked by a would-be customer this past Saturday evening.  The 22-year-old victim had stopped in the 1300 block of Regent Street to pick up a fare – two women and a man. For unknown reasons, the man – who had just taken a seat behind the driver – began to assault the victim. The Uber driver blacked. While unconscious, his van accelerated, jumped the curb and hit a traffic sign. The three people who had just gotten in the van walked away. The victim said the would-be clients canceled the ride following the battery, eliminating his record of the transaction. A MPD detective is trying to work with Uber to obtain the information. The male passenger was described by witnesses as being Caucasian, 6'3", with a beard. He was wearing Wisconsin Badger gear.  Anyone with information on this case is asked to contact Madison Area Crime Stoppers at (608) 266-6014.
