Domestic/Family Trouble

Incident Date

11/18/2019 - 11:30 AM

Havey Road (at Bonner Lane)

A large number of MPD resources were utilized Monday to safely return a baby to her mother and to take a potentially dangerous suspect into custody following a high-risk traffic stop.
Hamin W. Williams, age 37, no permanent address, was arrested for second degree recklessly endangering safety, strangulation, battery and disorderly conduct.
Williams is accused of going to the home of his baby's mother around 2:00 a.m. Monday. The victim was strangled and threatened with a knife, and with a gun. The suspect drove off with the baby. MPD negotiators, telephonically, were able to convince Williams to deliver the child to another family member.
The MPD next traced the suspect's movements to the Troy Drive area. He was found to be a passenger in a car that was stopped at Havey Road near Bonner Lane around 11:30 a.m.
The MPD's Special Victims Unit led the successful effort to return the baby and to apprehend the suspect. Other MPD teams - to include the Violent Crimes Unit, Burglary Crimes Unit, SWAT negotiators - worked with patrol officers, MPD Community Police Teams and others to bring about a much desired outcome.
