The Traffic & Emergency Management Lieutenant is responsible for the supervision of the Madison Police Department’s Traffic Unit comprised of the Traffic Enforcement Safety Team (TEST) and Traffic Specialists. The Lieutenant works in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff’s Office in the management and coordination of various traffic safety grants awarded by the WI Department of Transportation. The Traffic & Emergency Management Lieutenant is MPD’s representative to the Traffic Commission.
In addition to the responsibilities of traffic enforcement, the Lieutenant is also responsible for coordinating all aspects of emergency preparedness planning and response for the police department. The Lieutenant works in conjunction with the Madison Fire Department and other city agencies for training, maintenance and the execution of the City’s Emergency Management Plan.
