Used needles and other sharps are dangerous if they are not disposed of safely . They can hurt people and spread infections that cause serious health conditions. You can safely dispose of your used syringes at our locations, community locations, at Madison pharmacies, and locations statewide
Each month from February through June, we're offering free virtual trainings on how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. Read full details and register.
Take Steps for Safer Drug Use
Very strong opioids are being mixed into all types of drugs, including heroin, cocaine, counterfeit or fake prescription pills, and meth.
Follow these steps for safer drug use:
- Test all drugs for fentanyl and Xylazine before using
- Carry Narcan® (naloxone) and be prepared to use multiple doses when necessary
- Don't use drugs alone; call Never Use Alone at 877-696-1996
- Recognize the signs of an overdose:
- Pale, sweaty or clammy skin
- Lips/fingertips turn blue
- Slow or irregular breathing: gasping, gurgling, or snoring
- Difficult or unable to wake
- Always call 911 if you suspect someone is overdosing
- Check in with your friends/family who use drugs when there is an increase in overdoses in our area

Get Tested for HIV and Hepatitis C
Sharing equipment to use drugs can spread HIV and Hepatitis C. We do HIV and Hepatitis C testing at our Sexual and Reproductive Health Clinic.
