About Safety Town
The First Day, Daily Activity Logs & More

First Day of Safety Town

When entering Safety Town, you will be asked to check your child in. At this time you will be asked about allergies and medications; please have that information ready. We will also take the time to clarify any registration questions. We will also go over our check-out policy with each parent; this is extremely important. We need to make sure the information is correct in order for your child to go home with the correct individuals.

Please note, you or the person responsible for picking up your child will need to show identification every time you come for pick up - no exceptions. We encourage you to stay for the first 10 to 15 minutes with your child to see the Safety Town community and ask any questions that may arise. At this time we will also introduce you to some of the organizations that make Safety Town possible. This is a great opportunity to meet some of the people that are making a difference in your community.

At Safety Town

As you walk into Safety Town, you will notice sidewalks and houses. Please remember that we treat this town as a working community and would encourage you to do the same. Walk with your child to her house using sidewalks and crosswalks only, and take some time to meet your child’s house leader. Please make a note to remember your child’s bike helmet and and extra change of clothes in a zip-lock bag.

Daily Activity Log

Each day your child will be sent home with a folder of safety activities that he or she participated in that day. Please take time to go over these activities with your child. This folder will also contain a daily report individualized for your child. This is a great way for house leaders and parents to communicate.

Snack Menu

Each day children will be provided with a snack. They will have a choice each day of all-natural juice or water. Along with a beverage, they will be provided with one of the following: pretzels, Teddy Grahams®, banana, popcorn, or Goldfish® Crackers. If your child has allergies or is a picky eater, please feel free to send a snack with him.

Field Trip

We will be taking a field trip to the Madison Fire Department Station 9 on Thursday. Your child will board a school bus, where we will learn about school bus safety. When we arrive, the firefighters will show your child around their sleeping quarters and around the fire trucks.

Graduation Day

The last day of Safety Town is our graduation ceremony. Graduation will consist of the kids singing some songs and a picture slide show of the activities your child participated in during Safety Town. Graduation will last about 30 minutes. It is expected that each child will have a parent or guardian to attend this day. You are welcome to stay and visit with the safety mascots. Please note that after your child finishes with the ceremony they are no longer under Safety Town supervision.
