General Information

Truax Park ApartmentsThe Housing Operations Division of the Department of Planning and Development  provides the core services necessary to operate important, federally funded, low-income  housing programs and related services for the Community Development Authority (CDA). These services include the following:

     1.  Public Housing

There is low-cost public housing in 40 locations throughout the City of Madison. There are 327 units for families and 530 units for households with people over the age of 50 or people with disabilities.

  •      Property value is approximately $48,556,226

  •      Annual budget of $3,479,161

     2.  Section 8 Rent Assistance

In 2002, there were approximately 1556 vouchers with a total Housing Assistance Payments (HAP) contract in excess of $6 million to landlords within the City of Madison. Section 8 works with approximately 429 landlords. The CDA Housing Assistance Program is responsible for administrative and technical work relative to the operation of the federally funded Section 8 Voucher Program.

The Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Lottery Program was closed on Friday, November 30, 2007.
