ATHLETIC SHOE RECYCLING PROGRAM

The City of Madison has joined with Nike and the National Recycling Coalition as partners in the Reuse A Shoe program.

The Reuse A Shoe program will allow area residents to recycle their old athletic shoes. Nike will than take the old shoes and turn them into Nike Grind, a product used to make athletic surfaces such as basketball courts, soccer fields, running tracks and tennis courts.

What Type of Shoes Can Be Recycled?
You can recycle any athletic shoe. Shoes used for basketball, running, soccer, softball, wrestling, football, volleyball, and even golf shoes can be recycled. The only athletic shoes that cannot be recycled are shoes with metal spikes or cleats.

Where Do I Take My Old Shoes for Recycling?

You can bring your old shoes to the following locations:

  • The City of Madison Streets Division:
    1501 W. Badger Rd. and 4602 Sycamore Ave.
  • Movin' Shoes, 604 S. Park St.
  • The Shoe Box, Hwy 14 and Mills St. Black Earth
  • The Shoe Box Outlet, Baraboo, WI
  • Supreme Health and Fitness, 5555 Odana Rd.
  • University of Wisconsin Recreational Sports Camp Randall Sports Center, 1430 Monroe St.
  • Fleet Feet Sports, 8440 Old Sauk Rd.
  • Berkeley Running Company 3234 University Ave.
