Dane County Landlord Training: Keeping Illegal Drug and Gang Activity Out Of Rental Housing

Maintaining safe and affordable rental housing in Dane County requires a strong working partnership among the many parties who are concerned about the issue. This includes residents, rental property owners and managers, neighborhood leaders and law enforcement.  The Dane County Landlord Training program, Keeping Illegal Drug and Gang Activity Out of Rental Housing, is created specifically for rental property owners and managers to help in their role of keeping rental property free of illegal gang and drug activity.

This training session is sponsored by the City of Fitchburg and the      City of Madison Police and Building Inspection Departments, the Dane County Sheriff's Office and the Madison Landlord Legislative Council.

Location: Ridgewood Country Club Apartments, 2301 Traceway Drive, Fitchburg, WI

Directions: If taking the beltline from either east or west, exit Fish Hatchery Rd and travel south towards Fitchburg and Oregon. Less than a mile down the road, you will make a right onto Traceway Dr. Located about 1/2 block, Mid block is the Ridgewood Country Clubs office 2301 Traceway Dr.

 

  The cost is $30 and includes the Training Manual for Rental Property and Owners and Managers and other information provided by the sponsoring agencies.  Refreshments are included. Lunch is on your own.  

“This training gives those responsible for making rental property management decisions a better understanding of how they can make their properties safer and make a positive contribution to the neighborhood,” said Eileen Bruskewitz, Lead Instructor for the Landlord Training Program.  “The course work offers how-to practical advice including applicant screening, rental policies and procedures, and attracting residents who want to live in healthy and safe neighborhoods.” 

Police Officer Mary Anne Thurber, instructor of the Landlord and Manager Safe Workplace portion of the program adds, “It is essential that landlords and property managers learn basic skills in protecting themselves while at work and to know when to call the police.”
