The Department of Planning & Development,
Planning Unit provides technical assistance to over 120 neighborhood
associations. A neighborhood association is the officially designated,
recognized organization for a specific geographic location. Our program and
services revolved around building the capacity of the community leaders that
make our neighborhoods healthy and strong. The major functions of the
Neighborhood Planning Program include:
- Developing mid-range neighborhood plans with
neighborhood residents that strategically identifies the vision, goals and
objectives, and specific recommendations for a neighborhood;
- Distributing grant funding for neighborhood
planning, community enhancement projects, and leadership building;
- Providing technical assistance to community
leaders so they can effectively address the issues which affect their
quality of life;
- Maintaining a neighborhood association
database that contains contact information, meeting times and dates, and
newsletter publication timelines;
- Coordinating citywide Neighborhood
Conference and Neighborhood Summits that addresses key issues identified
by community leaders;
- Clearinghouse of information to neighborhood
associations on organizational, leadership skills, and problem-solving
methods.
