This site is devoted to providing current information on the project and process, including: upcoming meetings, results of previous meetings, maps, data, other resources, and input opportunities.

The Regent Street – South Campus planning area includes both sides of Regent Street from Murray Street on the east to the Monroe-Regent intersection on the west, and the area north of Regent Street bounded by Monroe, Randall, Johnson, and Murray Streets.

The purpose of this effort is to set a vision and for a complete and sustainable neighborhood, including a vibrant business corridor. The resulting plan will include a comprehensive implementation strategy with recommendations regarding land use, design guidelines, pedestrian and bicycle connections, parks and open space, and business district enhancements.

The planning process began in January 2007 and is expected to last through August 2007. A Steering Committee has been appointed by Madison’s Common Council to guide this effort. A planning consulting firm (Vierbicher Associates, working with the architectural firm of Potter Lawson) has been retained to develop the plan, working with the Steering Committee, business and property owners, neighborhood residents, City staff and other interested stakeholders. Once completed, the plan will be adopted by the Madison Common Council and be used to guide land use, infrastructure, budget, and other decisions affecting the future of this area. The plan can also be a valuable marketing/education tool to convey that the City and the neighborhood are working together to ensure the future vitality of the area.

This effort is being funded through grants from the City of Madison’s Neighborhood Grants Program, Dane County’s Better Urban Infill Development (BUILD) Program, and donations from the UW-Madison, the Alexander Companies, and other private donors.
