Redistricting Community Input Meetings Scheduled

April 25, 2011

The City of Madison is in the process of redrawing the City's wards and aldermanic districts. These boundaries are adjusted based on population changes that have occurred over the last decade. Using recently released 2010 Census data and other information that describes our community, the City's Redistricting Committee has been crafting potential configurations for the new aldermanic districts.

The Committee has scheduled three Community Input Meetings which will provide residents with an opportunity to learn about the redistricting process, view the draft plan(s) and comment on them. Residents are encouraged to attend one of the three meetings. Everyone is welcome at all of the meetings, although the content of the three meetings will be the same. The meetings are scheduled for:

Tuesday, May 10, 6:00 p.m.
Sennett Middle School, Cafeteria
502 Pflaum Road

Wednesday, May 11, 6:00 p.m.
Central Library, Rooms 202/204
201 W. Mifflin Street

Thursday, May 12, 6:00 p.m.
Cherokee Middle School, Cafeteria
4301 Cherokee Drive

The meetings will use an open house format with a brief presentation at 6:30 p.m.

The draft aldermanic district plan(s) that will be considered at the Community Input Meetings will be posted on the City's redistricting website closer to the meeting dates. The website is located at:

In early June, the Committee will select a preferred aldermanic district plan and forward it to the Common Council for their review and adoption. The new wards and aldermanic districts will then be used for the next decade.

Residents unable to attend the meetings can send their comments by email to Brian Grady, Redistricting Committee staff person, at
