   Design Elements: Paving and Landscaping

Paving and Landscaping

The new paving and landscape design will highlight both pedestrian safety and character of the State Street experience. The design will emphasize quality and durability of materials while recognizing the importance of creating visual interest.

The Design Team has been testing several paving materials in the 400 Block of State Street to determine viability and aesthetics.

Where possible, Healthy trees will be preserved along the length of State Street and new landscaping will be incorporated throughout the design.

Paving patterns and landscaping on Mifflin Street and Henry Street create continuity at the beginning of State Street

Two types of tree grates will protect the trees on State Street. Circular Grates will be placed along the length of State Street. These grates will be part of a larger trench planting system to give the trees a generous soils and water supply.

Over the last year, paving samples have been tested on State Street.

Pavement sample C-1, an exposed aggregate concrete has been selected as the primary pedestrian pavement for the State Street Design. It is a plain concrete mix (not colored) with aggregates primarily in the black and red ranges.
