Anchoring South Park Street, The Villager is critical to the redevelopment of South Park Street and the South Side.

Home to many health, education, and financial service tenants, The Villager is also home to community serving retail businesses, almost all locally owned.

When the CDA purchased the property in 2004, it was purchased to preserve the strengths of The Villager while planning for future revitalization of the arts and the neighborhood.

With The Villager Master Plan adopted in 2006, the CDA and the City have continued to work together to make the principles in the Master Plan a reality.

In 2008, the City’s Capital Budget provided in excess of $9.0 million to assist in improvements to The Atrium, the purchase of the Citgo and Mobil Gas Stations, a new South Madison Branch of the Madison Public Library, and the new Center for Economic Development and Workforce Training.

Over the coming months, the CDA and the project team will be posting updates, news of interest, and other details of the revitalization of The Villager.

We hope you will return often to this site.
