Obtain a Voter ID
You must present Photo ID to prove who you are in order for your vote to be counted. The address on your ID does not matter for proving your identity.
If you need an ID to vote, you can get one for free.
Help Getting an ID
The Dane County Voter ID Coalition offers free help with the DMV application process. They also offer free rides to the DMV. This is a joint effort of the League of Women Voters of Dane County and the Dane County NAACP. For help, call (608) 285-2141.
You Will Need
- Wisconsin ID Card Application Form
- Proof of Wisconsin Address
- Proof of U.S. citizenship
Choose any 1 of the following (See the full list):- Valid U.S. passport or passport card
- U.S. State issued birth certificate
- U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
- Proof of Identity
Choose any 1 of the following (See the full list):- Valid photo college ID card from any U.S. university, college or technical college
- Social Security Card
- W-2 form including your name, address and Social Security Number
- Proof of name and date of birth
Choose any 1 of the following (See the full list):- Valid U.S. passport or passport card
- Certified birth certificate
- U.S. Certificate of Naturalization
- Your social security number
