APPRAISER TECHNICIAN (HOURLY)

CLASS DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities:

Perform field data collection, computer report generation and clerical work relative to data compilation, computer data entry, filing and sorting in the Assessor's Office. Initially the work is performed in conjunction with or under the supervision and guidance of appraisal staff with increasing independence as knowledges and skills are developed.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Measure building improvements; view properties, update property characteristics and draw diagrams to scale.

Produce computer-generated reports relative to appraisal analysis using Lotus spreadsheet, word processing and in-house software in a Windows-based networked environment.

Compile data for reports, perform computer data entry, filing, sorting and other clerical support activities.

Perform related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of mathematics, including algebra, geometry and statistics. Knowledge of and ability to use word processing, e-mail and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of mechanical drawing. Basic knowledge of real estate appraisal and residential construction. Ability to read maps and locate property in Madison. Ability to speak and write English clearly and legibly. Ability to operate a computer and a statistical or business calculator. Ability to use tape and electronic measuring devices to measure building improvements. Ability to operate a motor vehicle. Ability to walk around buildings and climb stairs in all types of weather. Ability to demonstrate mathematical and reasoning skills through the assessment technician certification process.

Training and Experience:

Two years of responsible experience involving property appraisal, residential construction or other closely related functions. An Associate Degree or two years of college coursework in real estate, math, economics, building construction or other related fields may be substituted for experience. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledges, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.

Necessary Special Qualifications:

Possession of a valid Driver's License. Possession of or ability to obtain certification as an assessment technician by the State Department of Revenue within the first four months of employment.
