ASSISTANT PROGRAMMING COORDINATOR (LTE)

CLASS DESCRIPTION

General Responsibilities:

This is responsible lead, administrative support and technical work as an assistant to the Madison City Channel (MCC) Programming Coordinator. The employee in this position is responsible for maintaining master control equipment, serving as leadworker for hourly/student master control operators, maintaining editing standards and performing related work. The employee in this position is responsible for using the Amiga and Macintosh computer systems to maintain City Channel's Community Bulletin Board (CBB) and MCC Website; presenting information relative to the Common Council and other public meetings cablecast on MCC-12; serving as leadworker to the hourly/student CBB assistant; and performing other related functions and special projects. The work is performed under the general supervision of the MCC Programming Coordinator.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities:

Maintain Master Control equipment. Keep video heads clean, note equipment problems in log and inform Production Coordinator of needed repairs, observed defects and problems.

Train work study and other personnel in Master Control Operations, live switches and simple Amiga procedures. Train assistants in using the Amiga to design pages and update information on the CBB. Perform performance evaluations for work study, volunteer and intern employees.

Prepare daily computerized cablecasting log.

Recommend and implement the overall schedule of the CBB, design pages and special scripts using Amiga and Macintosh design software (Opalvision, Scala MM 400, and Adobe Photoshop) and scan and manipulate photos and graphics. Research and collect government information to put on the CBB. Assist with outreach efforts to promote the CBB.

Categorize, prioritize and edit public service announcements (PSA's) to determine which are aired and when. Record the number of City, County, State and non-government PSA's, promos, etc. sent to City Channel versus number entered onto CBB.

Design overall look and concept of MCC-12 website using scan and manipulate photos and graphics, using Macintosh design and html authorizing software, and Adobe Photoshop. Write and edit copy, update information and maintain the site. Design and update title and credit pages for meetings.

Assist master control operators with operation of the AMIGA and CBB in Master Control. Troubleshoot technical problems with the Amiga and CBB software. Act as production assistant or master control operator, as needed.

Perform special projects involving the creation of specific products using paint, presentation and character generation software. Work with production directors to create desired graphic products. Performing a variety of other functions relative to MCC-12 programming.

Provide general administrative and office support to the Programming Unit. Dub or edit tapes, as needed.

Perform related work as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledges, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge of television programming, scheduling and cablecasting methods, equipment and procedures. Working knowledge of program/production planning, taping and editing. Working knowledge of specialized computer systems and software such as the Amiga computer system, the Macintosh computer system and design and photo manipulation software such as Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and MirroScan. Working knowledge of html authorizing for website design and Macintosh website design software such as Adobe Pagemill. Knowledge of internet uses, protocols and search engines such as Netscape. Knowledge of basic office and administrative procedures and practices. Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions. Ability to organize, schedule and direct the work of others and provide training and performance evaluation. Ability to maintain records and prepare reports. Ability to lead hourly, student and intern staff. Ability to learn and effectively use the AMIGA computer system and other related systems and equipment. Ability to operate and maintain the master control equipment. Ability to establish and maintain effective customer and employee relations.

Training and Experience:

One year of office/clerical, technical or related experience in a television programming or cablecasting environment. College level work in an area related to television programming and/or production may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis. Other combinations of training and/or experience which can be demonstrated to result in the possession of the knowledges, skills and abilities necessary to perform the duties of this position will also be considered.
