2017: UNDERSTANDING THE GROWING 10%

Members of the Madison Police Department's Pride group will be presenting an important topic that revolves around the barriers and systemic complexities as they relate to law enforcement and the LGBTQ community. This will be a full day course.

The course will involve honest dialog about a divided and sometimes fearful relationship between the LGBTQ community and Law Enforcement. We will be discussing the LGBTQ community and its varying complexities. Significant time will be spent furthering our understanding and gaining insights into the transgender community (pronouns, identification, common courtesies, etc.) We will learn how historical and recent events often cause fear in reporting crimes within the community. We will complete the day with a discussion on where we go from here to include a guest speaker from the transgender community.

MPD Pride is a group of dedicated LGBTQ officers and allies who serve as a resource within law enforcement as well as within the LGBTQ community.
