Positions in the City's 40 departments cover a wide range of responsibilities, including clerical, general laboring, technical or paraprofessional and professional positions. Employees are based at 55 sites, with many "field" positions assigned to providing services in all parts of the city.

Employment

Permanent full-time and part-time positions provide the full range of City of Madison employment benefits. Hourly positions—ongoing, seasonal or connected with a specific project—are not permanent positions and provide limited benefits. Hourly positions do, however, provide opportunities to compete for City positions announced only to current City employees, including positions open only to members of specific bargaining units (unions).
