Traffic Enforcement & Safety Blotter

Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety Enforcement

May 18, 2021 9:21 AM

Currently officers are conducting an enhanced enforcement project in the downtown area focussing on Pedestrian and Bicyclist Safety.  Officers are stopping motorists who are failing to yield to pedestrian's as they attempt to cross our busy downtown streets.

Vehicles are required to stop for pedestrians that have entered a crosswalk, and to stop whenever another vehicle has stopped to yield to a pedestrian.

Please yield and make room for pedestrians and bicyclists - their safety and lives depend on it.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation

*** Update ***

Today's enforcement efforts occurred at the intersection of Regent St and Orchard St.  Officers stopped a total of 10 vehicles for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk ($250 fine and 4 point violation).
