OMVWI Enforcement

May 26, 2022 9:57 AM

This past weekend Officers from the Madison Police Department conducted two enhanced traffic enforcement projects focusing on OWI and other hazardous moving violations.

On Friday, 5/20/2022, Officers conducted a project on the Beltline from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM.  A total of 17 vehicles were stopped for speeding violations.  The highest speed stopped during this project was for a vehicle traveling 92 MPH in the 55 MPH zone.

On Saturday, 5/21/2022, Officers conducted a project on E Washington Ave from 8:00 PM to midnight.  A total of 16 stops were made for speeding.  The highest speed stopped during this project was for a vehicle traveling 86 MPH in the 55 MPH zone.  One of stops resulted in an arrest for several outstanding warrants.

Over the Memorial Day weekend the Madison Police Department will have several additional OWI enforcement projects happening throughout the City.  We hope that everyone has a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation, and conducted in partnership with the Dane County Sheriff's Office.  Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
