Traffic Enforcement & Safety Blotter

Pedestrian & Bicyclist Traffic Safety

June 8, 2022 9:10 AM

The Madison Police Department has been awarded a $50,000 Traffic Enforcement grant focusing on Pedestrian and Bicyclist safety.  The Madison Police Department has been awarded this grant for several years in a row and we will continue prioritize the safety of our most vulnerable roadway users.

Starting next week, and continuing throughout the summer, MPD will be deploying enhanced enforcement efforts several times each week on E Washington Ave, Regent St, and the thoughout the isthmus.  These projects will focus on driver behaviors that put pedestrians and bicyclists at risk.  Enforcement efforts will focus on violations such as Failure to Yield to Pedestrians/Bicyclists, Speeding, Red Signal violations, Speeding, and other hazarous moving violations.

These additional enforcement efforts are made possible through traffic overtime grants provided by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.  Areas selected for targeted enforcement are based off of traffic crash data and Vision Zero Madison's High Injury Zone.
