Background and Process
The current City of Madison Zoning Code dates back to 1966 and reflects both the style and pace of development of the era. In hopes of better guiding current development needs, the city has undertaken the process of rewriting the zoning code and creating a new zoning map. Looking through the Purpose page will provide a list of objectives and insight into the City of Madison’s interest in beginning this process.
Beginning with the Project Initiation and Orientation and ending in roughly two years with Zoning Map Revisions, Adoption and Implementation, the Zoning Code Rewrite Project will be a thorough examination of the current code, an identification of important issues and a drafting of an updated zoning code to better handle the development needs of the city. For a more detailed look at the rewrite, visit the Process page to learn more about the project.
