Cedar Street Pavement Markings, Monroe Street Library Reopens

posted

Hi Everyone.

Cedar Street Pavement Markings

The Transportation Commission will be making recommendations at their meeting this Wednesday, May 26, at 5pm, regarding the pavement markings on the section of the new Cedar Street east of South Street and west of the service entrance at the rear of the Truman Olson property. At issue is whether this 100' of pavement will be marked for five parking spaces, or whether this section will allow for buffered bike lanes in compliance with the best practices concept the city has identified for new street construction projects, commonly referred to as "complete streets."

It's worth noting these five spaces will not be in close proximity to the entrance of the grocery store. Street parking for 17 stalls adjacent to Luna's is set within the geometry of the street. Those 17 spaces remain in the plan as are the 60 spaces that will be reserved for Luna's customers in the adjacent parking garage.  The development team is prepared, moreover, to work out an agreement with SSM should spaces in SSM's surface parking lot across the street be needed.

The development team is not asking for additional parking and has been silent regarding these five spaces. There are strong sentiments, however, on both sides. I encourage you to voice your opinion to the Transportation Commission by emailing TransportationCommission@cityofmadison.com.
