Buckeye Rd, Special Election, Golf, Markets, and more - D15 Update 5/5/19

Buckeye Road continues to move forward with a contractor selected and a public hearing at Board of Public Works on Wednesday to finalize plans and assessments. There will be a final public meeting before construction begins on June 10 with more details about the construction and impact on neighbors. Final yard waste collection round begins this week and you can still register as a musician or host for Make Music Madison by May 7th.

Tuesday is the special primary election for Dane County Supervisor D17 and on Wednesday there's the LENA monthly meeting as well as a presentation of public art finalists for the new Pinney library. Thursday the Golf Subcommittee will meet and there will be a screening and panel discussion on the documentary 13th. This weekend there are more plant sales, markets, nature walks, concerts, and the Horicon Bird Festival.

5:00 pm – Madison Public Market Sneak Peek Feedback and Tour: Join the City of Madison and the Madison Public Market Foundation on Wednesday, May 8 to share feedback on updated designs for the Madison Public Market and to tour the building that will be the Market's future home.

5:30 pm - Board of Public Works: Public Hearings on Buckeye Road & Davidson, Dempsey, Maher, Park Court, Drexel, & Lake Edge Assessment Districts begin at 5:30p. If you are a property owner with concerns about the plans or assessment for either of these projects, this is the best place to raise those concerns.

7:00 pm - Lake Edge NA Monthly Meeting: Come hear about plans to open a new bar in the space previously occupied by Elie's and plans to demolish the existing house at 301 East Dean in order to build a new home in the same location. Other topics include garage sale planning & funding a bicycle rack at the new Pinney library.

7:00 pm - Public Art Finalist: Exterior Piece Presentation: All are welcome to attend the presentations for a public art piece that will be installed at the Madison Public Library New Pinney Library. The three finalists will have 20 minutes to further present on their vision, providing visuals, concepts, and inspiration within their proposals. Following the presentations there will be an opportunity for the community to make comments on the proposed pieces.

4:00 pm – Golf Subcommittee: At this meeting the subcommittee is expected to review the 2018 Financials for the Enterprise as a whole and to receive a staff memo indicating that staff will be working with the Mayor, Alders, and BPC to determine the next steps and process in the short term to address the significant financial and park land use issues. Staff will be recommending that this process commence quickly given the financial issues impacting the City's general fund due to the deficit position of the Golf Enterprise Fund.

6:00 pm – "13th" Documentary Film Screening and Discussion: The Madison Arts Commission and Department of Civil Rights invite you to attend the screening of 13th. A community discussion will follow the screening. The discussion will be moderated by Dr. Karen Reece, President of Urban Community Arts Network, and former Chair of the Task Force for Equity in Music and Entertainment.

6:00 pm - May Madison Night Market: Back for the 3rd year - the Madison Night Market is a celebration of Madison's unique and inspiring creative culture! Vendors showcase handmade products, local art, artisan gifts, prepackaged foods and fresh produce. The event includes live music, artists, retail store specials, visiting food carts and pop-up restaurant experiences.

9:00 am - Arboretum Native Plant Sale: Shop for more than 200 species of native grasses; woodland, prairie, and savanna plants; and trees and shrubs for a range of soil and light conditions.

11:00 am - Arbor Day Celebration: Join us to hear about the progress Friends of Silverwood Park has made, our new partnership with the Savanna Institute, and our first major agroforestry project. At 1:00 p.m. we begin planting the demonstration garden - more than 100 trees - where we'll need volunteers. We'll also have guided hikes in the Silverwood forest to discuss work to remove invasives, restore the oak savanna and encourage biodiversity at the park.

12:00 pm - Many Voices One Community Block Party: Join us for a celebration and amplification of Many Voices, One Community Radio WWMV-LP 95.5 FM. This family-friendly indoor/outdoor event will include local live music, dance, kids' activities, food and more.

2:30 pm - Bird & Nature Outing - Owen Park: Explore Owen Conservation Parks on gentle trails through historic oak openings on a hillside with an Ice Age kettle and along restored prairies with beautiful vistas on this high point overlooking the west side of Madison.

6:30 am - 2019 Horicon Marsh Bird Festival: Horicon Marsh Bird Club invites birders of all skill levels – as well as anyone who enjoys the great outdoors – to the 22nd annual Horicon Marsh Bird Festival (May 9th-13th, 2019). This 4.5 day festival provides family-friendly activities and educational experiences designed to showcase Horicon Marsh's role as an important habitat for birds and wildlife.

9:00 am – Monona Farmers Market: Market goers can sip on fresh-brewed café drinks and tap their toes to music while shopping for locally-grown seasonal produce, plants, herbs and flowers, baked goods, cheese, meats, honey, preserved foods, soap, candles, and more.?

2:00 pm - Mother's Day Concert with New Horizons Band: Concert will be held outdoors on the Great Lawn (weather permitting) so feel free to bring your own chairs/blankets. We'll also have any plants left over from our Plant Sale with the Pros available for purchase in the Atrium!
