Get Current Info on Public Beach and Lake Water Quality

Before heading out to our public lake beaches this summer, be sure to check Public Health Madison & Dane County's page for water quality information and beach closures. Your pets can also be impacted by water quality and algal blooms, so be sure to keep them out of the water as needed.

Salvation Army Redevelopment Proposal

On July 1 the Tenney Lapham Neighborhood Association held its first steering committee meeting for the Salvation Army's redevelopment proposal. The committee's proceedings are housed here. The Urban Design Commission will have a first look at the proposal on July 17 in an informational-only presentation. (see UDC Agenda Item 8 below in Meetings of Interest for more info). UDC and several other city bodies will formally consider the proposal in the future. Future TLNA steering committee meetings will be announced widely and well in advance.

S. Livingston St. Public Parking Garage Usage

The City's Parking Utility recently provided me with usage data for the public parking structure at S. Livingston and E. Main Streets. I asked for data from dates when The Sylvee and Breese Stevens Field had large events. Some of my early conclusions and thoughts:

• Weekday daytime parking sees roughly 300 parkers (capacity is 636 vehicles).
• Sellout concerts at The Sylvee sometimes fill the garage, sometimes not. Generally, anywhere from 70% to 100% of the 600+ stalls are used for these events. It appears that Sylvee patrons are using the garage, which makes sense given the close proximity.
• Large Breese Stevens concerts fill the garage to capacity. This was true for both Greta Van Fleet and Toby Keith.
• Breese Stevens soccer matches bring about 200 parkers, sometimes fewer. This low number is a bit surprising, but it does appear that there are many more pedestrians and bicyclists at soccer games, which also have less than half the attendance of the largest Breese concerts. In response to this information Big Top (Breese Stevens management) has included additional pushes in their emails to ticket buyers and fans to use the parking structure.

As mentioned in a previous alder update, Big Top is paying for City Parking Enforcement Officers to patrol the nearby neighborhood during large concert events, but if your driveway is blocked or you see other illegal parking activities, always phone the MPD non-emergency number to initiate towing and/or ticketing: 608-255-2345.

Dogs in Parks: Madison Parks Seeks Community Input

A reiteration of an earlier post concerning the City of Madison Parks Division hosting a series of community engagement meetings and conducting a public survey as they revisit policies for dogs in parks. The closest meeting to District 2 is Thursday, July 25, 6:30pm, at Madison Public Library Central Branch, 201 W Mifflin St, Room 302.
