Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin Secures Federal Funds for City Safety Projects

Mayor Dave Cieslewicz today thanked Congresswoman Tammy Baldwin for securing more than $600,000 in federal funds for two critical projects for the City of Madison. The money was included in the FY 2009 Omnibus Appropriations Act passed (245-178) today by the House of Representatives. The bill directs $332,500 to remedy congestion at the intersection of Mineral Point and Junction Roads on Madison's far-west side. The funding was requested by Mayor Cieslewicz to upgrade a heavily trafficked intersection that has grown more and more congested over the years. The new construction will meet the needs of motorists, bicyclists, and pedestrians. In addition, $300,000 is directed to upgrade the city's drinking water system. The money for this project was requested by Congresswoman Baldwin and Senator Herb Kohl to help construct pressure filtration facilities for the removal of iron and manganese from three existing wells. "As we continue to face tight budgets, I am so grateful to have such a strong leader in Tammy Baldwin," Mayor Cieslewicz said. "She's repeatedly worked to help Madison get its fare share of federal resources and once again is making critical projects in the city a reality." "I'm pleased to help secure federal funds to address these important safety needs. This type of federal/local partnership is vitally important to communities hard-hit by the economic crisis," said Congresswoman Baldwin. The Senate is expected to consider the Omnibus Appropriations Bill next week.
