Recruit Group 31 Begins Class on April 19

Eighteen Recruits Begin 20-Week Academy

The City of Madison Fire Department will begin a new 20-week recruit class on Monday, April 19. Classes will take place at the Department's training center on the MATC-Truax campus, 1750 Pearson St. Eighteen students with diverse backgrounds and experience will be a part of the class under the direction of Department training officers. Here are the recruits who will begin class next week: Matthew Anliker was previously employed full-time as a carpentry laborer with Kraemer Brothers Construction Company in Plain, WI. He worked for the Spring Green Fire Department and the Spring Green Ambulance Service in Spring Green, WI. He is a graduate of River Valley High School in Spring Green. He has also attended MATC. Anliker is currently a WI FF I & II, and a PADI Open Water SCUBA Diver. Leon L. Buggs, Jr. was previously employed at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare - St. Francis Hospital in Milwaukee WI as an Emergency Room Tech. He also worked as a Medical Assistant with Milwaukee Health Services, Milwaukee, WI. Buggs graduated from Wauwatosa East High School, and attended MATC - Milwaukee. He is a WI State EMT-B. Samuel Cooke was previously employed part-time as a Firefighter with the Chippewa Fire District in Chippewa Falls, WI. He attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in the Paramedic Technician Program. He has also completed coursework at UW-River Falls. Cooke is a WI Licensed Paramedic and a WI Firefighter I. He served in the United States Navy for six (6) years. Sean Emberson was previously employed with Essential Family Vision Care in De Forest, WI. He graduated from Sun Prairie High School and continued his education at MATC - Madison. Emberson has obtained his healthcare-provided (CPR/AED) certification. Peter Friedericks was previously employed with Epic Software in Verona, WI. He is a graduate of Indiana University High School in Bloomington IN and the University of Indiana. Christopher Hahn was previously employed part-time as a Firefighter by the Hales Corners Fire Department in Hales Corners, WI, as a volunteer Firefighter with the Big Bend Vernon Fire Department in Big Bend, WI, and as an Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Franklin Police Department in Franklin, WI. Hahn is a graduate of Franklin High School in Franklin, WI and UW-Whitewater. He has also completed coursework at MATC-Milwaukee. Hahn is currently a WI State Firefighter II, WI State Fire Inspector I, WI State Driver Operator - Pumper and a WI EMT -Basic. Warren Harms was previously employed as an EMT-Basic with Ryan Brothers Ambulance Service in Madison, WI, and at Wisconsin Distributors as a Delivery Driver. He also served as a Paid-on-Call Firefighter with the City of Middleton Fire Department. Harms graduated from James Madison Memorial High School in Madison, WI and has completed coursework at MATC - Madison in the Paramedic Program. He is currently a WI State Firefighter II and a EMT-B. Harms served with the United States Marine Corps for six (6) years. Anthony Hiller has been self-employed as a remodeler/contractor since 2002. He graduated from Madison East High School Northland College. Hiller is also a WI State Certified Firefighter II. Michael Howell was previously employed at Disaster Services, Inc. (DSI) as a Demolition Technician in St. Charles, IL. He served as a Firefighter with the Eaton Fire Department in Eaton, CO. Howell graduated from Palatine High School in Palatine, IL. His post-secondary education includes coursework at Harper College in Palatine and Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO. He is a CO Firefighter I and also a CO State Certified EMT. Kevin Kruchten was previously employed as a Journeyman Plumber with Lorentz Plumbing in Madison, WI. He also volunteered with the Aztalan Cycle Club in Fort Atkinson, WI as a race track safety specialist. Kruchten graduated from James Madison Memorial High School and attended MATC - Madison. Todd Mahoney was previously a Firefighter/Paramedic for the City of Memphis Fire Department in Memphis, TN. Mahoney graduated from Iowa City West High School in Iowa City, IA. He graduated from the University of Iowa. He is currently a TN Firefighter I and TN state-certified Paramedic. Tyler McDougal was previously employed at the DeForest Fire Department in DeForest, WI. He graduated from American School of Correspondence. McDougal is a WI State Certified Firefighter II and EMT-B. Kirk Munden was previously employed at Bankers Life and Casualty as an Insurance Agent. Munden is a graduate of Eau Claire North High School in Eau Claire, WI and the UW-Madison. Nickolas Nabholz was previously employed at the Park Bank in Madison, WI as a Service & Personal Banker. Nabholz is a graduate of Robert M. La Follette High School in Madison, WI and the UW-Madison. Carl Olson was previously employed by the City of Rogers in Rogers, MN as a Maintenance Worker I. He served as a member of the City of Rogers Fire Department and the City of Hanover Fire Department in Hanover, MN. Olson also maintains a farm with his wife. He is a graduate of Buffalo High School in Buffalo, MN and Ridgewater College in Willmar, MN. . Justin Salsano has owned and operated Revolutions Landscape Construction in Lebanon, NJ since June, 2006. He also served as a member of the Lebanon Fire Department. Salsano graduated from North Hunterdon High School in Annandale, NJ and attended both Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ and Moravian University in Bethlehem, PA. He is a NJ Firefighter I and EMT Shannon Smith was previously employed as an administrative assistant with United Cooperative in Deerfield, WI. She has also served as a member of the Deerfield Fire Department and Deer-Grove EMS. Smith is a WI Firefighter I and a WI EMT-Basic. Bart Williamson was previously with Beer Capitol Distributors in Milwaukee, WI as a Draft Route Salesman and as a part-time snowplow operator for Commercial landscape Maintenance Inc. in Milwaukee, WI. He has also served as a volunteer Firefighter with the Town of Lisbon Fire Department, in Sussex, WI. Williamson graduated from Arrow Head High School, Hartland, WI and attended UW-Waukesha. Williamson is a Wisconsin Firefighter I & II and EMT- Basic.
