Lake Rescue Team Searches for Missing Boater

The Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Team was called to Lake Mendota at 5:10 PM this evening to search for a missing boater. The team's rescue divers conducted searches in deep water in the area of Governor's Island. Rescuers were unable to find the boater and finished their search operations at 6:25 PM. The Lake Rescue Team was assisted by the Dane County Sheriff's Office Marine and Trail Bureau, the Maple Bluff Fire Department, and the UW Lifesaving Station. Additional updates will be provided by the Dane County Sheriff's Office as information becomes available. Please contact the Sheriff's Office Officer in Charge (OIC) with any questions. The Madison Fire Department Lake Rescue Team is comprised of 51 trained scuba divers certified by the Professional Association of Diving Instructors. On-duty divers respond year-round to topside, underwater, and ice rescues and recoveries, vehicle recoveries, and assistance calls from the City of Madison Police Department and Dane County Sheriff's Office.
