ADUs, Monroe Street Library, Budget Deliberations

posted

(My apologies, I pressed send prematurely on the post that just went out.  Here is this week's actual and correct update.)

Accessory Dwelling Units

The proposal to make it easier to construct an ADU will be at Plan Commission on Monday for an informational presentation. You can find the actual proposal language, as well as the staff memo and presentation by clinking here. You can read more about the proposal in this press release here. You can register to provide comment and get a link to watch the presentation here.

I am one of the original sponsors of this legislation, having worked with planning staff and fellow alders Foster and Heck in crafting the ordinance change. I've already heard from a number of you on this proposal and welcome any thoughts or questions you may have. Tune in to tonight’s Plan Commission to learn more. The proposal will come back to Plan Commission at a later date for a recommendation.

Monroe Street Library

Alder Bennett and I are offering an operating budget amendment from the Council floor tomorrow to expand Monroe Street Library hours of operation from three days per week to five days per week. The Library Board voted last week to fund this expansion from the library reserve, which makes this amendment revenue neutral with respect to the levy.

Please consider voicing your support for this amendment by writing AllAlders@cityofmadison.com. If you wish to speak in support via public comment, you may register here in advance for Item #2 (67496).

2022 Council Budget Deliberations

The Common Council will be taking public comment on the 2022 capital and operating budgets at its 5:30 PM meeting on Tuesday and deliberating the budget on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (if needed).

Madison Marathon

The Madison Marathon races will take place Sunday, November 14, starting at 7:00 a.m. at the Capitol.  Runners will go through the UW Arboretum, UW Campus, Warner Park, and back to the Capitol, with the last runners finishing around 1:30 p.m.  Police officers will be located throughout the course, assisting traffic. Drivers are encouraged to plan ahead if traveling around the race route as crossing the route will only be permitted when there are sufficient gaps in the runners. Find maps with runner times here.

Take care and stay safe.
