Construction Noise

Madison General Ordinance 24.08 does NOT allow the use of any equipment used in construction between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. in such a manner as to unreasonably interfere with the peace, comfort and quality of life of the neighboring persons of ordinary sensibilities. The intent here is to not allow the use of equipment, i.e. hammers, power saws, compressors, pneumatic tools, etc. between the hours of 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., when the noise would disturb neighbors.

If you feel that there is a violation of the ordinance, please follow these steps:

Contact the Building Inspection Division at (608) 266-4551. We will contact the contractor and remind them of the ordinance.
If there is a continuation of construction noise, contact Madison Police Department, Non-Emergency Dispatcher, at (608) 266-4275.
