Cieslewicz Names Clingan Economic and Community Development Director

Madison - Today, Mayor Dave Cieslewicz named Bill Clingan to the newly created, Economic and Community Development Director position. Clingan is currently serving as a Division Administrator in the State Department of Workforce Development. He served as a member of the Madison School Board for three years. "Bill will bring a balanced and experienced approach to Madison's economic and community development needs," said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. "He is an experienced manager with a strong background in workforce development. As a member of the school board, he has deep ties to the community and understands the key role that education plays in building our economy." "I look forward to working with the Mayor, the Council, the business community and the social services community to strengthen the safety, vitality and economic health of Madison neighborhoods," Clingan said. "I love this city and I am eager to begin working together to build an even stronger economy, and even safer and more cohesive neighborhoods." In his leadership role at the Department of Workforce Development for the past five years, Clingan managed over 600 staff, focused on a wide range of policy issues. Clingan served on the Madison School Board (the Board of Education) from 2003 through 2005. Clingan's appointment is subject to final review and approval by the Common Council. His salary would be $95,000. He would start Monday, November 5th.
