Madison - Mayor Dave Cieslewicz today named Katherine Plominski as the new Alcohol Policy Coordinator. The Alcohol Policy Coordinator position is jointly funded by the City of Madison and the University of Wisconsin-Madison to proactively address alcohol-related issues on campus and in the community. "Alcohol-related issues play a major role in public safety, neighborhood quality and other significant community concerns," said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. "As our new Alcohol Policy Coordinator, Katherine will help us continue to develop creative, proactive initiatives to address these issues. Like her predecessor, she will work to develop these initiatives with my office, university leaders, students, neighborhood residents, bar owners, public safety officials and other stakeholders." Plominski is currently completing law school at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. She recently completed work as a Hayes Intern, working with the Madison Police Department and Dane County District Attorney's office to develop strategies for addressing stalking on the UW campus. Plominski also served as a Judicial Intern for the Wisconsin Supreme Court. She is active in community service, volunteering for Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Dane County. "I am very excited to build upon the work of my predecessor and am looking forward to working alongside the Mayor and the various stakeholders in the Madison area," Plominski said. "I hope that our efforts to address alcohol-related issues will continue to make Madison a better and safer place for everyone." Plominski replaces Joel Plant who was recently named as a Mayoral Aide. She will start October 29.
