Madison - Mayor Dave Cieslewicz today named Ray Harmon to his staff. Harmon currently is the Special Projects Manager for Govenor Jim Doyle. He also served as the Director of the Governor's Milwaukee Office, and previously worked in Madison for the Wisconsin Housing and Economic Development Authority (WHEDA). "Ray's extensive experience in local and state government will be a great benefit to the community," said Mayor Cieslewicz. "He understands the challenges and opportunities we face as a growing city, and will play a key role in our efforts to respond to them." Harmon has served as Director of Gov. Doyle's Milwaukee office since 2003. He also worked in Madison, serving as the Director for New Products and Economic Development at WHEDA. Harmon also served as the Director of Economic Development for the Milwaukee Urban League. His background also includes local government experience at both the city and county levels, as well as work in South Africa. "It is privilege to be returning to Madison to work for Mayor Cieslewicz," Harmon said. "During my previous work in Madison, I really felt a connection to this community. I look forward to building on the relationships I made during that time, as well as starting new ones." In the area of community service, Harmon is currently leading Governor Doyle's Organ and Tissue Donor Initiative. Harmon is a transplant recipient and a donor family member, and will continue to work to help increase donation awareness and education. "Ray is a welcome addition to the Mayor's office," said Scott Gray, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Urban League of Greater Madison. "I have worked with Ray in his numerous roles in the past. He is a good leader and will be a great asset for the Madison community." Harmon replaces Enis Ragland, who was appointed by the Mayor to be Interim Director of the Office of Community Services. Harmon will start in his new position on November 12. # # # # # George Twigg Communications Director Office of Mayor Dave Cieslewicz (608) 266-4611
