Box Truck Containing Waterproofing Materials Ignite

On Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at 11:35 AM, a box truck at a construction site located at 333 N. Orchard and University Avenue, containing waterproofing materials ignited. Engine 4 saw 10 foot flames as they arrived at the scene. The crew was advised of chemicals in the back of the truck such as propane, gasoline and associated chemicals for waterproofing. The fire in the cargo area was extinguished with Class A Foam within 10 minutes. The incident caused some traffic congestion on University Avenue, but traffic has been reopened.City of Madison Fire Investigators and UW Police are investigating the cause of the fire. Damage estimate to truck contents is $70,000. No one was injured.
