9/11 Commemoration Aims to Give Back

Each year, as September 11 approaches, firefighters and other first responders are asked to reach back and remember that day in 2001, how it affected them as firefighters and, in some cases, how it drove them to become firefighters. This year, amid the more formal remembrances, firefighters and police officers are using the day to give back in memory of fallen colleagues. Those who vividly remember that day will recall the request that went out for blood donors, and the overwhelming response. The need for blood donors is still great, and to meet that need City of Madison firefighters are hosting Never Forget, a public blood drive on September 11 at Fire Station #11, 4011 Morgan Way, Madison, from 7:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. The need for blood donors is always great and the City of Madison Firefighters would like to commemorate the day by hosting a public blood drive at Fire Station #11 - 4011 Morgan Way. The Never Forget drive will be held from 7:00am-11:30am. The Madison Firefighters and Madison Police Officers will engage in a little friendly competition to benefit the American Red Cross by tracking the number of people each team can get to donate. The Never Forget public blood drive is a great way to remember the victims, honor the brave responders, and rekindle the spirit of public service to help those in need. Can't give on the 11th? Blood donation opportunities for this event are available during all of next week at either of the fixed locations at the East Donor Center, 2109 Zeier Road, or the West Donor Center 4860 Sheboygan Ave. Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are accepted.
