Madison Parks Disc Golf Pay for Play Program begins in spring 2013

posted

Disc golf, which has become one of the fastest growing sports in recent years, is fun for all and easy to learn! Beginning in 2013, Madison Parks will require a permit for players ages 17 and older. Why the change? The courses at Elver Park and Hiestand Park are showing the wear and tear of increased usage. In order to improve the quality of the courses and the amenities such as benches, tee boxes, turf maintenance, a 'pay to play' permit will be required. The fees collected from the disc golf permits will be used exclusively on disc golf course maintenance and improvements. Disc golf is low cost, low impact exercise, and a great way to explore Madison's Parks. Madison Parks Disc Golf courses are located at Hiestand Park, 4302 Milwaukee Street and Elver Park, 1250 McKenna Blvd. The disc golf courses are open to the public. Hiestand Park's course is open year-round except during the early months of spring. Elver Park's Course is open late spring through late fall. As of April 9, both of the courses are closed; same as the Madison Parks athletic fields. The course conditions are too wet to sustain a large number of players. Major damage to the course could result. Afterwards, it can take months for the course to get back into quality playing condition. 2013 Fees Daily, $5.00 Annual Pass, $40.00 ( valid calendar year, Jan - Dec) Annual pass replacement fee, $12.00 Free for kids ages 16 and under. How to purchase a permit Permits are now on sale. Permit applications will be available at the kiosks at the courses, in the Madison Parks administration office, 210 MLK Jr. Blvd, Suite 104, at two retail stores: (EAST) Glide - Disc Golf Pro Shop, 4222 Milwaukee St, Suite 7 and (WEST) Play it Again Sports, 6674 Odana Rd and on-line. As soon as the Madison Parks disc golf courses are open for the spring, a permit will be required. Want to Learn How to Play Disc Golf?
