City of Madison firefighters responded to 2802 Dryden Drive this evening at 4:30 p.m. after a report of a broken water pipe in the building. Engine Company 10 arrived on scene and observed water coming from a closed elevator door on the first floor, and more water coming down the stairwell from the second floor. Crews immediately accessed the water shutoff in a basement mechanical room, preventing further damage to the building. Firefighters then began evacuation of the building and requested assistance from City Building Inspection. Approximately 7 units of the 33-unit, three-story building were affected by water damage. The building inspector determined that the building cannot be occupied tonight. Forty-four occupants and multiple pets have been displaced. The Red Cross - Badger Chapter sent a team to the scene to assist residents. Damages are still being calculated.
