Free Mobile App Hailed As 'Social Innovation' In Madison
In recognition of its ability to bring life-saving skills to the pockets of everyday citizens, the PulsePoint app and Meriter Foundation received a 2015 M List award for Social Innovation from Madison Magazine.
Madison Firefighter/Paramedic Paul Britain and Meriter Foundation President Marilyn Rhodes accepted the honor at the M List Awards Banquet on Thursday, November 12.
PulsePoint, the free mobile app that alerts citizens of nearby cardiac emergencies, is made possible by a partnership between The Madison Fire Department and Dane County EMS with funding provided by the Meriter Foundation, the nonprofit arm of Meriter UnityPoint Health.
Over 10,000 people across Dane County have downloaded PulsePoint.
Utilizing GPS technology, the app alerts citizens of cardiac emergencies taking place near them. It is designed to help any individual with any level of familiarity with CPR to assist someone in need.
When seconds count, it is citizen bystanders who can make a difference by providing life-saving chest compressions until emergency medical help arrives.
The Madison Fire Department thanks Madison Magazine for recognizing the importance of this innovative, accessible technology by including it in this year’s list of organizations and individuals who are making an impact on the local culture and economy.
