District 8 Alder Avra Reddy Resigns Effective September 30, 2019

Alder Reddy has notified Council Leadership of her resignation from the Madison Common Council as of September 30, 2019.

In her short tenure, Alder Avra Reddy has made a great impact and great contributions to our Council deliberations with her thoughtfulness and commitment to making Madison a better place. We wish Alder Reddy and her family the best. Please join us in thanking Alder Reddy for her service.

The Common Council President oversees the application process to fill the vacancy. Applications are reviewed by the Common Council Executive Committee (CCEC), which makes a recommendation to the Common Council. The Common Council then appoints the District 8 Alder until the next regularly scheduled elections (April 2020).

Applications should be emailed to council@cityofmadison.com.
Applications must be received no later than 12:00 p.m.(CST) on Monday, October 14, 2019.


Applications should include:
•Name
•Address
•Home telephone number
•Work telephone number
•E-mail address
•A biographical resume should include education, work, neighborhood, and civic experience
•A statement on why the applicant wishes to serve
•A statement of what the applicant wants to accomplish
• Whether the applicant plans to run for alderperson in the Spring 2020 special election

The following is the expected timeline:
• October 14, 2019: Applications to fill the vacancy due by 12:00 pm (CST)
• October 15, 2019: Review of process details at CCEC Meeting
• Week of October 21, 2019: Special CCEC Meeting for applicant interviews and recommendation of selected candidate to Council
• November 5, 2019: Common Council appointment of District 8 Alder
