Soil Drilling, Testing to Begin in Reindahl Park

posted

The public may start noticing crews working in Reindahl Park starting at the end of November into December. Crews will be boring, or drilling vertical holes, to test the soil for its consistency, strength and durability for a future Imagination Center at Reindahl Park project.

Crews will drill holes six inches wide, twenty feet deep to confirm soil conditions. Soil condition helps determine soil properties, including how much weight the soil can support.

The information from the soil will help plan building foundation, floor slab, pavement design, construction and stormwater infiltration potential.

City Engineering hired CGC, Inc. as the contractor to oversee the digging work. CGC, Inc. hired Badger State Drilling as the subcontractor to drill in the south east section of Reindahl Park. The digging will take several days.

After the work is done, crews will fill the holes and restore the area to original condition.

There will be no tree removal as part of the boring. Bore hole locations were decided based on minimizing and avoiding tree removal all together.

Intended Schedule:
Week of Nov. 25, 2019: Digger’s Hotline, Crews will mark public and private utilities
Early week of Dec. 2, 2019: With utilities marked, exact bore locations are identified.
Mid week of Dec. 2, 2019: Drilling begins.
End of week of Dec. 2, 2019: Drilling should be complete.

Madison Public Library, in collaboration with Madison Parks, is planning a new library and community facility at Reindahl Park. The project was originally identified in a two-year study conducted by the library as a top priority for that area of the city. Since its inclusion in the City’s Capital Budget in 2018, the library planner for the Imagination Center has had extensive community conversations with residents and stakeholders. An initial plan for the facility will be shared in the first half of 2020, with design completed in 2021, and construction budgeted to begin in 2022. Visit the Madison Public Library website for more information.
