Northside Bus Shelters Enhanced with Art

posted

Metro Transit riders on the city's Northside will soon see area bus shelters transformed to include the design work of Daniella Echeverria. Echeverria, was chosen by a committee of Northside residents, to create six silhouette images that may appear on benches, bus shelters, banners and numerous other places throughout Northside neighborhoods. Commissioning Echeverria to create the silhouette images was part of a large and ongoing community effort to share pride of the cultural diversity, natural spaces, parklands, gardening, recreation, and economic opportunities unique to North Madison. The idea for customizing Northside bus shelters stemmed from a neighborhood planning process that began in 2009 and was supported by past Madison Common Council member Satya Rhodes-Conway, and current Alders Anita Weir and Larry Palm. The Northside bus shelter beautification project is being funded through a grant from Madison's Community Development Division and is being administered by Michael Miller (mmiller@cityofmadison.com).
