Madison Fire Promotes Campus Fire Safety

Today, the Madison Fire Department will be reaching out to students on the University of Wisconsin campus with a message of fire safety.  September is Campus Fire Safety Month, and we are setting up shop right in the heart of campus this afternoon!
 
Come join us at Sellery Hall, 821 W. Johnson St, for the opportunity to learn about how to be fire safe during your time at the UW-Madison.  Our staff will be on hand to teach students the ins and outs of fire extinguishers, provide Call-N-Pump training, and talk to them about how to be fire safe in a campus environment.
 
Chief Davis will be there to speak at 2:00PM, and the event runs from 1:00PM to 4:00PM at Sellery Hall (on the basketball courts outside).  Several members of the Madison Fire Department will be there throughout the event.
 
Campus Fire Safety Month highlights the dangers of students, new and returning, living in close quarters both on and off campus.  A few simple tips to help keep you safe during the school year:
 

• Always have a sober person in the house.  Alcohol can cause unsafe behavior, and cloud judgment.
• Test your smoke alarms monthly!  All smoke alarms should be 10-year lithium battery powered, tamper resistant devices.
• Don’t prop open fire doors.  Propped doors lead to rapid smoke and fire spread, and can prevent you or your friends from getting out in case of fire.
• Leave fire alarm and sprinkler systems alone!  Don’t disable or silence them, as they are there to protect you and your friends.

Sprinklers and sprinkler piping are not there to hang clothes from, or to exercise on.
