Council Executive Committee Selects Dr. Kwasi Obeng as Council Chief of Staff

Obeng Expected to Start in New Position in January 2018

Common Council President Marsha Rummel announced today that the Common Council Executive Committee voted unanimously to select Dr. Kwasi Obeng as the new Council Chief of Staff. The Chief of Staff is a new position and will be responsible for coordinating the execution of strategic initiatives, assisting the program development and policy responsibilities of 20 elected City Council members, and manage the Council office and staff. Obeng has worked in the City of Chicago's, Office of Inspector General, as Chief Performance Analyst since 2014, where he managed performance audits of all city departments. Prior to working in Chicago, Obeng worked for the City of Atlanta's, City Auditor's Office

"Kwasi Obeng bring a wealth of experience to this new position," said Marsha Rummel. "He has worked in local government and state government for over a decade and is familiar with the operations of local city government, evaluating programs and departments, and working respectfully with all stakeholders. I am confident he will help the Council as we review what the future of local government should look like to best serve our city."

Obeng holds a PhD in Political Science from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters from Georgia School of Professional Psychology.

Dr. Obeng’s confirmation hearing is scheduled for the December 5, 2017 Common Council meeting and his first day will be January 8, 2018.
