Danisco Breaks Ground on New Research & Development Facility in Madison

NEWS RELEASE Date: Thursday, October 12, 2006 Madison – Mayor Dave Cieslewicz and leaders of the Danisco corporation and McAllen Properties gathered today to break ground on the company’s new research and development facility in the City of Madison. Combined with an expansion of their existing production facility nearby, Danisco is investing over $10 million and creating 35 good-paying jobs in the community. The facilities are located adjacent to the City’s brand new Midwest BioAg Gateway Campus on Madison’s southeast side. This project effectively serves as the first BioAg project for in this one-of-a-kind economic development initiative. “This is a major new investment in our community, and shows that our efforts to build a globally-competitive economy are paying off,” said Mayor Dave Cieslewicz. “Danisco’s investment in our community will create jobs and help our economy, especially our biotech sector, continue to grow for years to come.” “After 100 years of continuous business in Madison, our employees are counting down the days to when we can move into our new office and laboratories,” said Doug Willrett, Senior Business Director, Global Enzymes & Site Manager-Madison for Danisco. “This facility not only reunites all the Danisco employees in Madison at a single site but also provides us with the capabilities to continue our growth in biotechnology well into the future.” Danisco is one of the world’s leading producers of ingredients for food and other consumer products, employing over 10,000 employees in 46 countries. The company’s products include emulsifiers, enzymes, stabilizers, cultures, flavors, sugar and sweeteners such as xylitol and fructose. “Ruedebusch Development & Construction is proud to be leading the Design Build construction team for McAllen Properties by creating this new home for Danisco,” said Carl Ruedebusch, President and CEO of Ruedebusch Development & Construction. The new research and development facility will be 18,000 square feet in size, twice as large as the existing space. Danisco will also add 12,300 square feet to their existing 55,000 square foot production facility. Construction is expected to be complete on the R&D facility and Production Plant Expansion in March, 2007 and December, 2007, respectively.
